Design Integration Laboratory
Computing Help
For Oregon Architecture Students and Faculty
For any urgent problems with the printers in The Design Computing Laboratory (DCL),
Room 283 Lawerence Hall, send e-mail to
Arch Lab Support. Be sure to include
your full name, return e-mail address, the computer you were using
when you experienced the problem, and as complete a factual description of the
problem as you manage.
If you seem to have a generalized computer problem:
- Stop and take three deep breaths. (Count them!)
Statistically, most problems are the result of user error,
often stress-related.
- Read the manual.
(In the vernacular, "RTFM".) Every time you learn
to solve a problem for yourself, you move yourself a big step up the
techno-ladder to cosmic self-sufficiency.
- Ask another nearby student for help (politely).
You are often each other's best possible resource!
- If the above hasn't solved your problem, you may need "teacher help".
To get it, first make sure you can make a clear trouble report,
including all the relevant technical details of your
working situation. Then click on the HELP button below to send your trouble report by
e-mail. Be sure
to include what machine you were using, how much free disk space it has,
what software you were using, how much memory was allocated to it, and how big your
document file is and/or was.
- We NEED to get clear and complete trouble reports to be able to help.
There's no way we can help if you just say "The Mac crashed," or "I was just working,
and then I lost my file." Please, think like a technician, just long enough to describe
the problem.
If you need to get hardware help in person, visit Tom Pargeter, the AAA computing support
person at his office at M283A Lawrence Hall, during regular working hours.
- Good luck, and happy computing!
