Objectives
Introduction to architectural modeling with DesignWorkshop.
Overview
Follow the step-by-step tutorial in the DesignWorkshop User Guide to create a complete spatial model of a simple dwelling.
This step-by-step tutorial is also available online in the Artifice web area, at URL http://www.artifice.com/tutorial.html .
Procedure
First, read the Introduction. in the DesignWorkshop User Guide, starting on page 1, and then the Technical Overview, beginning on page 4. It is a bit rah-rah, but the facts along the way are important to your understanding of the software.
Next, read the first part of the Tools Reference. section, from pages 11 to 15. Then browse through the rest of the section.
Now, create your first building model. Go to page 91, and work through Tutorial Part One. and Tutorial Part Two, building first a massing model and then a spatial model, concluding with porch railings, front steps, and door and window frames, at page 140. It will probably take you several work sessions to building the whole little building. As usual, be sure to save and back-up your work carefully along the way.
Note: If you are still waiting for your DesignWorkshop software to arrive, you can get the application and begin plying with it by downloading DesignWorkshop Lite, which is free over the web and on AOL.
To Hand In
When you have created this model, laser print a summary wireframe view on 8 1/2" x 11" paper to hand
in. The hard copy should (as always) include your name, the date, the class, and
the assignment.
Then use Netscape to electronically hand in your encoded DesignWorkshop model document, by uploading it to the homework folder on the DIL server. Use our file naming convention precisely:
(In place of "### " substitute "222" if you are in A222, or "610" if you are in A410, A510, or A610.)
Note: Your final DesignWorkshop document file MUST be encoded into a "Stuff-It archive" just before you hand it in. This is easily done with a tiny peice of software called "DropStuff", which is available on the DuckWare CD-ROM, via AppleShare on the campus net at "CC Public Domain" or over the web directly from Alladin. Look for "DropStuff w/EEŠ 3.5.1 Installer".
Once your file is saved, named correctly, and encoded into a Stuff-It archive, then you can actually upload your homework. First, click the link below to go to the "ftp" folder named "a222.f96.ftp/Hwk_5-Cottage_Model".
Then, use the Netscape
