Objectives
Introduction to architectural modeling with DesignWorkshop.
Overview
Follow the step-by-step tutorial in the DesignWorkshop User Guide to create a complete spatial model of a simple dwelling.
Procedure
First, read the Introduction. in the DesignWorkshop User Guide, starting on page 1, and then the Technical Overview, beginning on page 4. It is a bit rah-rah, but the facts along the way are important to your understanding of the software.
Next, read the first part of the Tools Reference. section, from pages 11 to 15. Then browse through the rest of the section.
Now, create your first building model. Go to page 91, and work through Tutorial Part One. and Tutorial Part Two, building first a massing model and then a spatial model, concluding with porch railings, front steps, and door and window frames, at page 140. It will probably take you several work sessions to building the whole little building. As usual, be sure to save and back-up your work carefully along the way.
To Hand In
When you have created this model, laser print a summary wireframe view on 8 1/2" x 11" paper to hand in. The hard copy should (as always) include your name, the date, the class, and the assignment.
Also hand in your work electronically. Again, using the Chooser to log in via AppleShare, deposit your drawing file on the Architecture Forest AppleShare server. Please follow this naming convention for your file explicitly:
A222.f95.5-YourFamilyName
(Abbreviate your last name if the filename gets too long. If your last name is duplicated in the class, follow your last name with your first name.)
